Write to Publish: Novel (Middle School)

Middle school is when big ideas start forming. This class gives them somewhere to go. Daily coaching, a beta readers group, and professional editing give young writers the structure to finish what most only dream about.

Write to Publish: Novel (Middle School) gives students in grades 6–8 the structure and support to do something remarkable: write and publish their own novel. The course follows a professional framework, scaled to meet middle school writers where they are with age-appropriate pacing, adjusted length expectations, and coaching that builds confidence alongside craft. Students can write fantasy, mystery, adventure, science fiction, humor, whatever sparks your imagination.

Students begin with structured planning: character development, plot mapping, and world-building using guided planning tools designed to help younger writers organize their ideas before they start drafting. From there, they write inside an active online classroom with daily coach interaction and a beta readers group of fellow middle school novelists. The emphasis is on the writing process (drafting, receiving feedback, revising, and growing) not just reaching a word count.

What makes this class different from anything else available is the beta readers group. Students read each other’s work in progress, offer structured feedback, and learn to give and receive the kind of critique that real authors depend on. This isn’t a one-time reading. It’s ongoing, chapter-by-chapter peer collaboration, the same process used in college-level workshops and professional writing groups. Annual classes are the only Write to Publish classes that include built-in peer collaboration throughout the writing process.

In the final weeks, students work with a professional editor on our team to prepare their manuscript for publication. They learn about writing an author bio, developing a cover concept, drafting a back blurb, and publishing through Amazon KDP. Students finishes the year with a published novel and the knowledge that they did something most adults only talk about.
