Bless you for teaching English poetry and Shakespeare! I knew we needed to cover it, but I was dreading it. Your love for this material is obvious, and your encouragement and care for the kids is just what homeschoolers want when they choose to delegate their teaching responsibilities to someone outside the home.

This class has given me experience that I know will help me as I continue through my education—not only in writing, but in many other things as well. I’ve learned how to write well and clearly, how to read and think about literature, how to “sift” through literature that doesn’t follow my worldview and appreciate it anyway, and also, how to begin developing a compassionate heart towards real people in this world who are just as lost as the characters we’ve read about in literature. These things will serve me so much in the future. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Miss Rice for all the hours and hours of work you’ve put into developing your classes and teaching me specifically.

This is the only writing class, within my humble research of the on-line world, that ‘teaches’ writing and doesn’t just ‘edit’ what you write. I can recommend this to anyone who’s willing to work hard. You have been one of the most encouraging and yet firm teachers we’ve experienced. Your praise always encouraged my daughter, and your criticisms were so specific that she learned much from them.

I have analyzed literature to some extent before this class, but with the wonderful handouts and teaching from Miss Rice I feel I have a greater knowledge of literature now, and am a lot more comfortable answering discussion questions and writing papers relating to literary aspects.

After our older children graduated from homeschooling high school and completed their first years in college, I asked them what classes prepared them best for college both in terms of content and self organization/time management. Both of them said, "Write from the Heart. Definitely.
