Understanding how we communicate online is both a writing skill and a life skill. This workshop covers the practical digital writing students need: types of online communication and the privacy standards of each, composing effective emails, technical skills like attachments and document conversion, and internet safety across different platforms and settings. Instructor feedback on every assignment.

Week-by-Week: Week 1: An Introduction to Online Communication Skills | Week 2: Technical Skills for Online Communication | Week 3: Online Profiles | Week 4: Sharing Online

Intended For Grades: 9-12

Time Expectation:
  • Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.
Class Objectives:
  • Compose well-written emails
  • Understand internet safety and social media pitfalls
  • Convert documents between formats
  • Adjust tone in communications for business and personal needs
Class Features:
  • Students will have the opportunity to communicate professionally online as part of the class
  • Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills.  Coaches also available via email all week long.
  • An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.
