Go deeper into advanced poetic forms and techniques. More styles, increased focus on structure, rhythm, and word choice. Four poems per week. Eligible for contest submission. Grades 6–12. Instructor feedback on every assignment.

Building on Poetry Playground I, this workshop introduces more advanced poetic forms with increased focus on structure, rhythm, and intentional word choice. Students write four poems per week, all eligible for contest submission. For students who loved Poetry Playground I and want to push their craft further.

Week-by-Week: Week 1: Structure: Lines & Stanzas | Week 2: Sound Quality | Week 3: Word Choice | Week 4: Imagery

Intended For Grades: 6-12

Time Expectation:

Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Class Objectives:

Write in various styles of poetic structure
Understand the importance of sound quality and how it functions in poetry
Evaluate word choice and structure choices in poetry
Revise poetry and understand best practices in revision

Class Features:

Students will have the opportunity to submit their poems to a writing contest as part of the class
Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills. Coaches also available via email all week long.

An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment
