Poetry Playground I Workshop

Discover the forms and freedom of poetry. Write four poems per week with a focus on word choice, sound, and structure. Eligible for contest submission. Grades 6–12. Instructor feedback on every assignment.

Poetry is where writers learn to make every word count. In this workshop, students explore different types of poetry and practice writing their own: four poems per week, with a focus on word choice, sound quality, and structure. All poems are eligible for entry into several writing contests. Whether your studen has never written a poem or writes them constantly, this workshop sharpens their craft. Instructor feedback on every assignment. Weekly deadlines. 2–3 hours per week. All materials provided.

Intended For Grades: 6-12

Time Expectation:

Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Class Objectives:

Write in various styles of poetic structure
Understand the importance of sound quality and how it functions in poetry
Evaluate word choice and structure choices in poetry
Revise poetry and understand best practices in revision

Class Features:

Students will have the opportunity to submit their work to a writing contest as part of the class
Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills. Coaches also available via email all week long.
An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.
