Informative Writing Workshop (Middle School)

Explain what you know and what you’ve discovered. Learn to research, organize, and write a clear informative essay on a topic that matters to you, from hobbies to history to the things you care about most. Grades 6–12. Instructor feedback on every assignment.

Informative writing is the backbone of academic and professional communication, and it’s a lot more interesting when you’re writing about something you actually want to explain. In this workshop, students learn to write clear, well-organized informative essays using topics drawn from their own interests and learning. Whether they’re explaining how a hobby works, exploring a moment in history, breaking down a scientific concept, or explaining why something makes their life better, students practice the skills that transfer to every subject and every grade level ahead. Students learn to research effectively using internet sources, build a strong outline, draft with clarity and structure, and revise with attention to detail and voice. By the end of four weeks, they’ve produced a polished informative essay they’re proud of. Instructor feedback on every assignment. Weekly deadlines. 2–3 hours per week. All materials provided.
