Comparison Writing Workshop (Middle School)

Learn to compare by starting with what you know. Students practice comparison writing using real-life topics like products, places, and experiences before applying those skills to academic writing. Grades 6–9. Instructor feedback on every assignment.

Comparison writing is one of the most important skills a student can learn, and it makes a lot more sense when you start with something real. In this workshop, students learn the principles and structure of comparison writing by analyzing things they actually care about: Which purchase is the better value? Which vacation destination wins? Which approach solves the problem? By working with real-life comparisons first, students build the organizational and analytical skills they’ll need when comparison essays show up in high school and college without the intimidation of starting with academic texts. Instructor feedback on every assignment. Weekly deadlines. 2–3 hours per week. All materials provided.
