Foundations of Essay Writing Workshop

Your first step into organized, thesis-driven writing. Practice thesis writing, build strong outlines, and write complete essays from prompt to polished draft. Grades 6–9. Instructor feedback on every assignment.

This workshop teaches students how to write clear, focused academic essays, from understanding a prompt to delivering a polished final draft. Students learn to craft specific thesis statements, brainstorm and organize ideas, write compelling introductions and conclusions, and develop fully supported body paragraphs. This is the ideal starting point for any student who hasn’t written formal essays before. Instructor feedback on every assignment. Weekly deadlines. 2–3 hours per week. All materials provided.

Intended For Grades: 6-9

Time Expectation:
  • Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.
Class Objectives:
  • Identify and create strong thesis statements
  • Create outlines for standardized essays
  • Form fully developed supporting paragraphs
  • Answer standardized prompts with well-crafted responses
  Class Features:
  • Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills.  Coaches also available via email all week long.
  • An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.
