Composition 101 A: Foundations for Beginning Writers

Foundations for Beginning Writers. Paragraph development, using voice, and the basics of organizing their thoughts on the page, with daily coach engagement and peer collaboration. Placed by ability, not grade.

Composition 101A is designed for the beginning writer who is ready for structured instruction. Students learn the fundamentals of clear writing: paragraph development, using voice, and the basics of organizing their thoughts on the page. Through daily interaction with a writing coach and peer collaboration, students build confidence and discover that they have something worth saying. A variety of writing styles are covered in both creative and academic writing.

Composition 101 A & 101 B use the same online classroom and teach the styles of writing together with different assignment topics and expectations for each. This allows advanced students to slide from Level A to Level B in one year or spend a full year at each level.

Most students in this class are in grades 6–7, but placement is based on writing readiness, not age. Take the placement quiz.
