Build Your Collection: Poetry

Build a cohesive collection of original poetry with coach feedback on every poem. Explore multiple forms, develop your voice, and finish with a manuscript ready for publication.

Poetry Collection is a semester course for high school students who want to develop a cohesive body of original poetry. Students explore multiple poetic forms, develop their voice, and build a collection that tells a story or explores a theme, not just a folder of unrelated assignments.

Over 12 weeks, students plan, draft, and revise poems with individualized coach feedback. The class covers form and structure, imagery and figurative language, rhythm and sound, and the art of revision in poetry (which is its own discipline). This class focuses on individualized, one-on-one work with your coach; others may be in the class, but peer collaboration is not required. Students finish with a polished collection ready for publication or submission.

Already exploring poetry with us? Students who have taken our Poetry Playground workshops have a head start. Poetry Collection takes those skills further and builds toward a publishable body of work.

Ready to publish? Pair this class with Meet with an Editor and Publish (semester) or Publish Your Book (workshop) .
