Creative Writing Semester

Find your voice through fun prompts and longer short story assignments. From descriptive details and dialogue to building narrators and writing complete short stories, this is a three-month creative journey with instructor guidance. ½ credit.

This semester takes students on a progressive creative writing journey. They begin by developing core techniques like descriptive detail, inner thoughts, playing with time, figurative language, and dialogue. Then they move into point of view and the art of narration, exploring different types of narrators and what each one brings to a story. The semester culminates in real creative output: students build a narrator and write a story from that perspective, then write a second short story that brings together everything they’ve learned. This isn’t a single workshop on one technique. It’s a sustained creative development arc with instructor feedback at every step. Weekly deadlines. Three one-month units that can be taken consecutively or spaced across your school year. ½ credit.
