Helps students learn about different types of poetry and practice writing their own poems. Each week, students will write four poems with a focus on word choice, sound quality, and structure. Poems are eligible to be entered into several contests. Starts the first Monday of every month.

Time Expectation:
  • Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.
Class Objectives:
  • Write in various styles of poetic structure
  • Understand the importance of sound quality and how it functions in poetry
  • Evaluate word choice and structure choices in poetry
  •  Revise poetry and understand best practices in revision
Class Features:
  • Students will have the opportunity to submit their work to a writing contest as part of the class
  • Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills.  Coaches also available via email all week long.
  • An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.
All materials will be provided in the class.
