This semester provides students with an overview of almost every English question type seen on the new digital SAT test, with focus on the most frequently tested topics. These topics include word interpretation, supporting and weakening claims, and conventions of English. The course is also newly-developed to provide targeted prep for the updated, digital version of the SAT. Throughout this course, students will learn core content skills, test-taking strategies, and methods for improving their time management skills. Modules can begin at any time and may be taken in succession or spaced out over the semester or school year.

Syllabus Overview

Time Expectation:

Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Class Objectives:

Develop thesis statements and voice for academic writing
Prepare proper MLA works cited page and citations
Understand quoting and paraphrasing sources
Ask and understand research questions
Create a full outline for a research project
Create additional genres to supplement research
Utilize the revision process to improve writing

Class Features:

Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills. Coaches also available via email all week long.
An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.

All materials will be provided in the class.
