Bundle Research Writing I and Research Writing II together and save!

Research Writing I is intended to help students in the first stage of writing a research paper: finding sources and preparing citations. They will be guided in finding a topic, learn how to gather and read information effectively as well as how to create citations in a paper. They will understand how to use quotations effectively.

Research Writing II is all about writing the research project! This class helps students create a multi-genre research project. This project will include a traditional research section as well as additional genres of writing that bring the research to life. Students will walk step-by-step in each of these segments and will end the class with a research paper of at least 10-20 pages that includes elements of technology and visual interest. Students will use the research and preparations they completed in Research Writing I to create this project.

Assignments are weekly and require about 4 hours of time per week. This class can be taken multiple times–assignments are designed to accommodate repeat students with new challenges.

Time Expectation:

Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Class Objectives for Research Writing I:

Find appropriate sources
Prepare proper MLA works cited page and citations
Understand quoting and paraphrasing sources
Ask and understand research questions
Create a full outline for a research project

Class Objective for Research Writing II:

Write a fully developed 10-20 page research paper
Properly cite sources within the paper
Create additional genres to supplement research
Utilize the revision process to improve writing

Class Features:

Students will have a completed research project by the end of the class
Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills. Coaches also available via email all week long.
An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.

Class Pre-requisites:

Introduction to Research Writing or previous writing class covering thesis statements and essay structure.
Recommended prerequisite: Creative Writing Voice Basics
