This persuasive writing workshop focuses on the principles and style of persuasive writing and application of rhetorical strategies.  This workshop include a real-life application in the form of sending a persuasive letter to address a personal, local, or national issue.  Topics include: types of comparison structure, outlining, best practices for organization, and utilizing sources for support. Students will complete a comparison essay from start to finish.   Starts the first Monday of every month.

Syllabus Overview
Time Expectation:
  • Classes have weekly assignments. All assignments will be due midnight Friday EST each week. Assignments are intended to take approximately 2-3 hours per week.
Class Objectives:
  • Identify the parts of persuasion
  • Recognize logical fallacies
  • Evaluate biases in news media
  • Analyze real-life persuasive situations
Class Features:
  • Students will have weekly contact with a coach who evaluates mastery and skills.  Coaches also available via email all week long.
  • An online classroom will teach students time management and appropriate cyber behavior in a controlled environment.
All materials will be provided in the class.
