This class is uniquely created and is the only online class available that prepares students for two AP® tests in one year.  This class is open to 11th and 12th graders who have already received high school English training. The student does not have to have taken a formal literature class to be accepted but should still be well-read.

AP® English is a college-level class and allows students to earn college credits in high school. This class is uniquely created and is the only online class available that prepares students for two AP® tests in one year.

Students prepare for the following College Board tests in this 30-week course:

  • AP® English Literature & Composition
  • AP® English Language & Composition

This course has been approved by the College Board’s AP® Course Audit Program and authorized for both examinations.

AP® English is a a year-long course. The first semester will be spent on thematic units exploring close reading of various texts from the Greeks through the 19th century and the second semester will focus on modernism and postmodernism paired with nonfiction articles.

This class offers a unique opportunity: two AP® preparations in one! This class also offers:

● The possibility of 12 college credits in one year (four semesters of college English)
● Lower textbook classes
● Essay-writing practice on a weekly basis
● Readings in both fiction and non-fiction
● Class discussion
● Papers that meet requirements for high school requirements that also prepare students for the AP® tests.
● Two full practice AP® examinations, graded and with feedback for the student.

This class is open to 11th and 12th graders who have already received high school English training. The student does not have to have taken a formal literature class to be accepted but should still be well-read.

Classes have daily assignments. Some assignments span several days to give flexibility. Assignments are intended to take approximately 1½ hours a day to complete.

  • Writing From the Heart: A Resource Guide to Engage Writers
  • Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad (Norton Critical Edition, 5th Ed, specifically ISBN 9780393264869)
  • Everything’s An Argument by Andrea Lunsford and John J Ruszkiewicz (7th ed, ISBN 9781319085759) Note: you do not need the version that includes readings. Readings will be provided in class.
  • Hamlet by William Shakespeare (Folger Library 1992 ISBN 074347712X)
  • How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster (provided in class, in ebook format, with a few chapters removed for inappropriate content)
  • The Crucible by Arthur Miller
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
